Water Based Screen Printing - For that Soft Hand feel & Vintage Look

A DIFFERENT KIND OF SCREEN PRINTING COMPANY: At Newell Graphics, we have Green Screen Printing taken steps to ensure that we are doing our part for the environment as well as for the health of our workers. We love printing t-shirts, but we don't feel that any t-shirt is worth risking our health or the environment for. We want you to 'feel good' wearing apparel printed by Newell Graphics. So here are some things we do differently:

PVC FREE WATERBASED INKS: One of the biggest steps we've taken is switching to Permaset eco-friendly, PVC and Phalate free waterbased screen printing inks.

Traditionally, screenprinting is done with inks called plastisol. Most printers prefer them because they are easy to work with. However, they contain Water Based Screen Printing phthalates , PVC's and other nasty chemicals and solvents which have been linked to various health concerns such as cancer. Our Permaset inks do not contain these compounds.

But hey, what about the print quality? That's the beauty of waterbased screenprinting. These inks 'soak into' the garment, unlike plastisol which tends to sit on top of the shirt threads. This produces an extremely soft and durable print. In fact, light colored garments are so soft, you may not be able to tell where the print starts and stops if you run your hand over the shirt with your eyes closed. These shirts really do 'feel good'!

WATER BASED INKS FOR DARK GARMENTS: We are pleased to now be able to offer PVC free waterbased inks for dark colored garments as well! Although these aren't quite as soft in feel as printing on lights, they are much softer than most plastisol prints. And it feels good knowing the shirt you're wearing is earth friendly and non toxic too.

OTHER IMPORTANT STEPS: Besides switching to waterbased and Phthalate free inks, here are some other important steps we take for the health of us and the earth:

Hand Print - Every shirt that leaves our shop was printed the old fashioned way, by hand. It's the most environmentally friendly form of energy there is.
Replaced Harmful Chemicals - Since we work with waterbased inks, our most common solvent is good ole H2O. But we've switched other chemicals over to soy based and/or biodegradable citrus products.
Re-use Screens - We use retensionable screens. These not only produce a better print, but instead of throwing away our screens when we get a tear in the mesh, we use them over and over. This eliminates a lot of unnecessary waste.
